Hopefully I'll be able to finish all my little owls once I get done my last week of finals next week. For now, it's back to work.

September

Hard to believe the summer is over. In a way I'm glad; all the traffic can go back home.

We went for a walk yesterday - leaving my camera and his tablet at home. We averaged a 20 minute mile and walked to the artesian well and back; 3.6 miles. It felt good - I love a nice long walk at a good pace. If I had brought my camera it would have taken us 3 hours. ;)

On the way back to the car, I gathered a few signs of autumn: Ginkgo leaves, persimmons, magnolia pods, and a feather. We also saw deer, squirrels, skinks, and a turtle since we were out fairly early.

Cats & Finds

Alex ordered both these for me off of ebay - the owl wasn't the first, second OR third one I wanted (they all went for $30+) but I think I like it. He is cute.

Kobol has been a little demon lately, albeit a ridiculously cute one. She's been dragging a My Little Pony around with her everywhere. And the other night, she knocked his new sneakers in the box off a shelf, tore up the paper, and settled down with My Little Pony which she nestled into a shoe!

Odds and Ends.

What I've been doing in my Not Free Time:

Photobucket

Making more owls. There are even more in progress right now. I'm insane.

Photobucket

Baking cookies. Diets be damned. In my defense, though, I did a total of 10.5 miles at work a week ago, and then last weekend we did a 3.6 mile walk in Estell Manor Park.

Also, my embroidery thread collection from when I was younger has come in handy with my owls:

The weather has been lovely - hitting the low sixties at night, and barely breaking 80 during the days. I'm totally ready for Autumn - and especially ready for all the summer traffic to leave. Summer session is half over - and I have so much work to get done - I just finished midterms (A's thankyouverymuch) and have some major projects for Print Production to complete, as well as papers and exams for History of Graphic Design. I registered for my two courses next quarter - Tuesday afternoon and NIGHT. Ugh! I'm taking Conceptual Imagery and Typography II - two core classes I need to get done so I can continue on.

Fun with Felt, part II

I love this little guy. I made him based on the previous owl, but modified him to be a bit bigger and at the last minute, decided to give him wings. Which look rather like penguin flippers. But he's still precious. I used a lightweight gray corduroy and soft gray felt. The eyes are buttons I found at Jo-Anns - they're perfect.

Next up is either a raccoon or a mauve corduroy owl. That is, once I finish my research paper and my second project and my Print Production homework and....

Fun with felt.

Based on mr. monkeysuit's adorable felt cupcakes I attempted to craft my own in her style. It's nothing compared to the fantastic ones she makes, but my mom liked it! The body is too long - and I'd like to try to bevel it slightly so it resembles the shape of cupcake wrappers.

I also made a cute little owl based on the pattern in Doodle Stitching book I bought a while back. I love it! I also made a second one, this time out of corduroy and gave him wings - pictures forth coming.

Dinner tonight: grilled chicken teriyaki kabobs with rice, scallions, and fresh pineapple. Mmm.

5 years.

Saturday July 19th was our 5 year anniversary. We spent the afternoon-evening in Cape May. Ate salads on the beach. Watched the sunset. It was perfect. I took 300 pictures but will only post a few at a time. And obviously not all 300.

They're draining the reservoir here to fix the dam. The water level is the lowest it's been in a long time; you can see the old road and the old dam bed where Absecon Mill once was. It's fascinating.

Since the water level is so low, there are swaths of yellow horned bladderwort - it's so pretty!

I snapped a few shots the other day on my walk - I wish I could have brought my zoom, but I didn't want to get in trouble with security.

One of these days when it's not over 90 degrees, I'm going to try to get some more shots while it's still in bloom.

Odds and Ends

Yesterday my books came from Amazon. I love getting a box of books! The loot:

I'm ridiculously in love with the Doodle Stitching book, and have already started some designs on paper to try!

Also, my lame-patternless-mushroom I attempted to make:

I have a pattern for a different one and have cut the fabric already - it looks more promising than my half-assed attempt! ;)
